Expect the Unexpected
Author's Profile: Mary L. Baier, Mobile Notary in Jersey Shore, PA

Mobile notary signing is far from 9-5 with appointments scheduled and closed. This last week was one to remember.

I received a call on Tuesday to do a closing nearby Wednesday at 7:00. An hour before the closing I contacted the signing company for the documents. They said they would get back to me. An hour later they said that the clients were making last minute changes and they would be available soon. Finally at 9:00 I called the company and said I wouldn't be able to make it that late. They were still waiting on the documents.

Thursday I received a call to do a closing at 7:30. At 5:00 I contacted the signing company and they didn't have the documents. Here we go again. At 7:00 I called and they informed me that the closing was canceled but "didn't anyone contact you?".

Ten minutes later I was called by a title company to do a last minute closing at 7:30 that same evening. He told me the documents would be available in 10 minutes. Guess what? The documents were not ready until 9:30 and I arrived at the closing at 10:00 and home at 11:30.

Friday I received a call from the clients from Wednesday and wanted to close at 4:00.  I asked if they had contacted the lender and they said no that they just thought I could print the documents. At 5:00 I received the documents and not only one loan but a second mortgage included. I arrived home from that one at 7:30 Friday evening.

What a week!

I have found you are at the mercy of the clients, lender, title company and signing company. How dare you think the appointment will be on time. This is quite different than my previous career.

I do think we mobile notaries must take control of our schedule at times to show the companies that we deserve respect too.  This week was one of the weeks that you just don't want to repeat.

On to the next week!
